The MARVIC project is developing a context-specific MRV framework to encourage farmers to engage in carbon farming activities. Before starting a carbon farming project, farmers and advisors need to know which are the main beneficial carbon farming practices that deliver sufficient mitigation potential in their region. Also, for policymakers it is important to have information on the realistic mitigation potential of specific carbon farming practices, to develop appropriate policy instruments that will incentivise farmers in the uptake of these practices. In this webinar we will present the results of our state-of-the-art literature review of carbon farming practices for arable land, grassland, orchards, agroforestry and peatlands and provide insights into the mitigation potential, the uncertainties, and co-benefits.
In addition, we will also present what is the climate impact of temporary carbon removals from carbon farming practices and how this compares to permanent removals, which can be calculated using the concept of radiative forcing.
